Powder Horn by the Folky Artist
Offered is a very nice example of the work of the "Folky Artist". You can read about him and see other examples of his powder horns in the Media section of this web site. His work spans from as early as 1756 to at least 1777.
This horn is one of his largest measuring 15 1/4 inches along the curve and 3 inches across it's butt. The turned bottom plug is original and is from the same type wide grained wood used in the horn shown on pages 149 and
154 in George C. Neumann's book "Collectors Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution." That horn now resides in the Valley Forge Museum and is the earliest dated horn known by Folky Artist.
The horn we are offering has many of the unique traits of Folky Artist best work, has great size, double curved shape, and wonderful warm patina.
Please inquire for more information.
