Waynesville, North Carolina
It has been rumored that Earl Lanning kept the talents of Charlie Miller a closely guarded secret for many years. Actually they are lifelong friends, and Charles, busy raising his family and working for Champion Paper Company for many years, had just not strayed far from home. Finally venturing out of North Carolina in 1994 to the “Hammer In” and Lake Cumberland CLA mini show, he has since made quite a name for himself. Now retired, he has become a familiar face in the Contemporary Longrifle artisan’s fraternity and his items are promptly snatched up as quickly as they become available or are presented for sale.
An expert with brass, copper, iron and silver, his “smithing” abilities are second to none. His designs and methods are painstakingly executed and although most of his pieces are utilitarian objects, they are most always very unique, have wonderful character and provoke intrigue.
“Folding Knives, Powder Measures, Tender Boxes & Flint Strikers”
are among his finely wrought specialties
